Kotlin Developer

Migaku is an innovative language-learning startup. We're creating a platform that lets you learn languages by watching and reading content on Netflix, YouTube, and other sites, using our browser extension and mobile app.

We're looking for a hard-working and ambitious developer who has a ship-first mentality, gets stuff done, and isn't afraid of accumulating technical debt if it means we can ship sooner and grow faster. You should be ready to work quickly, learn new tech as needed, and deal with the difficult challenges that will surely arise as we start our next marketing push and grow faster. Your work will have a major influence and direct impact on the success of the company.

What you will do:

• Develop the Migaku Core SDK, which drives the business logic in all our projects
• Work together with other team members on integration work for different platforms
• Integrate and test new features directly in the downstream projects when applicable
• Interact with users to triage and fix issues

You must:

• Have worked with Kotlin extensively on either Android or JVM
• Be comfortable with writing code that will largely be used by Web-based clients
• Enthusiastically learn new technologies as needed
• Speak very fluent technical English
• Be comfortable with, and effective working remotely with an international team across various time zones
• Quickly become a product expert and learn about all features and functionality of the Migaku platform

The ideal candidate:

• Has worked with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) for a year or more
• Has experience with Web development (bonus points for having experience with Vue)
• Has experience with iOS development
• Has experience with Android development
• Can start immediately
• Has a deep interest in and experience learning foreign languages
• Has experience working with SQL databases
• Is in a European or Asian time zone

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary: 55k ~ 120k USD (8M ~ 18M JPY), with stock options for outstanding candidates
• 36-day holiday schedule - work hard, play hard (details to be shared in an interview)
• Remote work (office work also available in the case of relocation to Japan)
• Visa sponsorship available to the correct candidate
