Location requirement
Candidates already living in Japan with a valid work authorization are preferred. Candidates based abroad are also considered if they can obtain a Japanese work visa quickly, in about a month; Abbeal supports the visa process through its Mobbeal team.

Abbeal is hiring for a Japanese urban air mobility company (passenger eVTOL) developing its aircraft in Aichi, near Nagoya, with type certification underway. Join as the technical authority on composite material qualification, allowables and process specifications. Long-term mission, freelance or Abbeal permanent contract, on-site in Aichi.

Context

The structures team is qualifying the composite materials and processes of a passenger eVTOL airframe, primary and secondary structures, on the way to type certification. Two M&P engineers are needed to own specifications, test programs and allowables.

The role

  • Write and maintain material and process specifications for CFRP, adhesives and core materials
  • Define coupon-level test matrices to ASTM standards: static, fatigue and damage tolerance (NHT, OHC, CAI, bearing)
  • Derive A-basis and B-basis allowables through statistical treatment of test data, following CMH-17
  • Assess physical and mechanical test results for material equivalency and process stability
  • Support manufacturing and quality on acceptance criteria, MRB defect disposition and root-cause analysis of non-conformances

Your profile

  • Based in Japan with a valid work authorization preferred; candidates abroad considered if a work visa can be obtained within about a month
  • BS/MS in materials science, aerospace or mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with composite materials in the aerospace industry
  • Solid grounding in composite micromechanics, fracture mechanics and Classical Laminate Theory
  • Deep knowledge of ASTM testing standards and statistical data reduction
  • Fluent English; Japanese is a plus
