About AIRoA

The AI Robot Association AIRoA) is launching a groundbreaking initiative: collecting one million hours of humanoid robot operation data with hundreds of robots, and leveraging it to train the worldʼs most powerful Vision-Language-Action VLA) models. What makes AIRoA unique is not only the unprecedented scale of real-world data and humanoid platforms, but also our commitment to making everything open and accessible. We are building a shared “robot data ecosystem” where datasets, trained models, and benchmarks are available to everyone. Researchers around the world will be able to evaluate their models on standardized humanoid robots through our open evaluation platform.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deployment and Commissioning: Install, initially configure, commission, and conduct site acceptance of physical robots. Create checklists and recovery procedures, standardize deployment processes, and manage operations at deployment sites.
  • Incident Response: Isolate field issues involving software, networks, sensors, actuators, power supplies, mechanical components, and environmental factors. Provide initial response and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Log Analysis and RCA: Use ROS/ROS2 logs, system logs, sensor logs, operation logs, error codes, and video records to document root causes, reproduction conditions, impact scope, temporary countermeasures, and permanent corrective actions.
  • Quality and Maintainability Improvements: Provide specific feedback to the Engineering team to improve quality, repairability, operability, user experience, and field safety.
  • Procedure and Knowledge Development: Develop deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, checklists, work standards, and workflows to establish repeatable team operations.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Hands­on professional experience troubleshooting physical systems involving robots, industrial automation equipment, mechatronic products, factory automation equipment, or mobile robots.
  • Experience analyzing logs and isolating faults in physical systems, and designing improvements through resolution.
  • Ability to document reproduction steps, root­cause hypotheses, response history, and improvement requests in a format that can be clearly communicated to engineering teams.
  • Experience with on­site deployment, testing, adjustment, recovery, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with safety procedures, or an equivalent practical mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate across Hardware, Software, Integration, Simulation, and Operations teams and translate field issues into engineering problems.
  • Business level Japanese

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ROS/ROS2, bag/log analysis, state machines, remote monitoring, OTA updates, diagnostic tools, health checks, or anomaly detection.
  • Experience with RCA, FMEA, FRACAS, MTBF/MTTR, maintainability design, quality improvement, failure classification, or recurrence­prevention processes.
  • Knowledge of motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators, electrical systems, industrial networks, robot arms, and material­handling equipment.
  • Experience in multi­robot operations, fleet management, field operations, customer­site deployment, or maintenance­partner management.
  • Experience or qualifications in industrial safety, robot safety, field safety culture, risk assessment, or work standardization.

AIRoA is a non-profit, cross-industry association in Japan building an open and scalable robot data ecosystem that enables a wide range of researchers, startups, and companies to develop advanced AI robots together.

They collect and integrate large-scale motion, perception, and interaction data from robots operating in factories, warehouses, homes, hospitals, and construction sites, and transform it into shared robot foundation models and datasets. By providing this common infrastructure, AIRoA accelerates AI robot development in and from Japan and supports the real-world deployment of robots that help tackle social challenges such as labor shortages, aging populations, and the need for safer and more efficient workplaces.
