The Team

The Data Research Group has 3 pillars, Data Governance, Democratisation, and Monetisation. These are highly interdependent, to

find balance between data access and respecting highest privacy principles and leverage the Moneytree data platform with unmatched business opportunities. You will be working in the Data Research Group and mainly responsible for building and growing Moneytree Data Platform as a fundamental infrastructure to our data products and a self-service tool to democratise access to data, enabling cross-functional teams to make data-drive decisions, while maintaining the highest level of privacy. This team is responsible for the full R&D life cycle - from collaborating on new research initiatives to deploying new data pipelines and machine learning systems.

About you

You have experience in various big data cloud service infrastructures and be able to apply a breadth of tools to solve broad ranges of business or data product questions.

You are passionate, self-motivated, and take ownership. You are an organised and effective communicator, capable of independently driving issues from planning to resolution, and communicating insights to non-technical audiences.

In this role you will

Design and implement scalable and reliable data pipeline, suitable for ingestion, processing, and storing large datasets from different sources.

Improve existing and create new data infrastructure components to better automate extraction, transformation, loading, and other data management processes.

Develop tools to proactively measure, monitor, and improve data quality and consistency during loading and analysis processes.

Define and promote best practices for data management and analysis, and to build and improve systems to implement and support these.

Collaborate with cross-functional Moneytree teams from multidisciplinary science, engineering and business backgrounds to enhance current business processes.

Learn and understand a broad range of Moneytree data sources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use

Maintain technical document and communicate results to diverse audiences with effective writing, visualisations, and presentations

Own meaningful parts of the service, have an impact and grow with the company

In the first 30/60/90 days, your expected deliverables include

Complete security and privacy training.

Complete onboarding training with a mentor.

Understand technical solutions from other teams.

Become a strong team player and raise our overall quality.

Identify and suggest several improvements in the current data pipeline to the data platform.

Contribute in the vision of the Data Research group services, such as code improvement, documentation, and production deployment.

Qualifications

2+ years of working experience in software development in at least Python (Alternatively, Scala or Java).

4+ years of relevant work experience in big data infrastructure systems in the cloud (AWS is preferred), such as, but not limited to, Distributed Computing, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Presto, or other big data systems.

Comfortable with Spark, Python, and cloud service deployment.

A proven record of designing scalable data pipelines or ETL workflows.

Expertise with some AWS services, especially AWS CloudFormation.

Experience with Docker containers or similar technologies.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Solid understanding of backend architectures/design patterns.

Expertise with and attention to security best practices.

Interest in building efficient pipelines for machine learning applications.

Discipline to work independently and drive results.

Business level of written and spoken English.

Salary
Moneytree's salary structure is designed to offer a base salary along with stock options. Stock options are still a relative rarity in Japan, so Moneytree is one of a reasonably small list of Japanese companies offering them.
Japanese Language Policy
Moneytree does not require Japanese language skills for their engineering positions, though it is an advantage.

As a customer-centric company building products for Japanese customers, Japanese fluency is required for product managers and product designers to do user research, product discovery, etc.
Visa Sponsorship
- With the current pandemic, we are only accepting applicants with valid working visas in Japan.
- We offer support for visa renewal to new hires with valid working visas in Japan.
Paid Leave
Moneytree offers 20 paid holidays in addition to 10 sick/care leave days.

The Standard paid leave in Japan is 10 for an employee's first year, so this is what you'll get at the majority of companies. The fact that Moneytree doubles this to 20 really makes them stand out from other companies in Tokyo.

And then there's their sick day policy. Since these aren't legally mandated in Japan, most companies don't have them at all. Moneytree really goes above and beyond here with 10.

Moneytree supports remote work, allowing its employees to work from home or the office. Depending on the position, they can live anywhere in Japan.
Work style
Moneytree’s working hours are 10:00-19:00, and their core working hours are 10:00-16:00
