Director/Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Challenge Markets Japan

The Challenge Markets Japan — Partnerships & Platforms team is a new team with a two fold mission: 1) build strategical alliances with partners in Japan by leveraging Indeed technology, 2) improve Indeed products and platforms to make it easier to reuse Indeed technology beyond the Indeed site. 

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager at Indeed, you will provide leadership to a team of developers. You will partner with your Product counterpart, and identify and define product and engineering goals for your team. You will be responsible for helping shape and grow the organization in this new area of investments. You are comfortable learning new things on the fly and helping your team learn unfamiliar systems and technology. You make pragmatic technology decisions to balance scalability, speed to market, and long-term maintainability. You are able to work with internal and external stakeholders to validate integrations and deliver them to customers.

You understand that the best managers serve their teams, removing roadblocks and giving individual contributors autonomy and ownership. You have led engineering teams and earned the respect of talented software developers.

• BS in Computer Science or related area, or relevant work experience with prior success as an Engineering Manager
• Have at least a few years’ experience leading medium-sized (~10-member) teams
• Experience with Java, building high-performance distributed systems as well as GRPC and GraphQL a plus.
• Experience with service-oriented and event-driven system architectures is a plus.
• Experience with web development, ideally with deep knowledge of JavaScript is a plus.
• Work experience in the Japanese market and language ability in Japanese are a plus.

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
