About AIRoA

The AI Robot Association (AIRoA) is launching a groundbreaking initiative: collecting one million hours of humanoid robot operation data with hundreds of robots, and leveraging it to train the world's most powerful Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.

What makes AIRoA unique is not only the unprecedented scale of real-world data and humanoid platforms, but also our commitment to making everything open and accessible. We are building a shared "robot data ecosystem" where datasets, trained models, and benchmarks are available to everyone. Researchers around the world will be able to evaluate their models on standardized humanoid robots through our open evaluation platform.

 

About this role

You will own the web platform that enables operators to teleoperate robots in home and living environments, along with the operator- and resident-facing applications. You will design, build, and maintain them across their full lifecycle. Human operators remotely drive humanoids in residential settings through these applications, and you also own the integration that hands the resulting data off to the ML/VLA and data-platform teams.

The platform spans a Go backend built on Domain-Driven Design and Clean Architecture, two Next.js/React applications (one for operators and one for residents), low-latency video, audio, and ROS telemetry transport, and the AWS infrastructure that runs it across development, staging, and production. You will work end-to-end, from real-time transport and access control to the operator UX that shapes the quality of the collected data.

 

Team & Development Style

  • Work starts from requests raised by the strategy team and on-site operators, and you take it from there: organizing requirements, then design, development, testing, and ongoing operations. You see features through from conception to production, not just a single stage.
  • We work in Scrum (sprints and story-point estimation).
  • We align on design documents before implementing, and changes are reviewed and then delivered continuously via CI/CD.
  • You will build alongside people from a range of specialties, including operators, VLA researchers, and robotics engineers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement teleoperation systems (real-time control, low-latency video/audio/telemetry transport, and operator-facing UI).
  • Work closely with robot operators, using real-world feedback to continuously improve the operator experience, session reliability, and data quality.
  • Develop and operate the web applications and internal tools that support data collection, such as mission/task management, robot and operator management, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Develop configuration-management systems for metadata such as robot configurations, task definitions, and operator assignments.
  • Design and implement APIs for data interactions between internal services and external data sources.
  • Integrate with the core platform (robot and data infrastructure), collaborating with the VLA and Data/ML platform teams on data ingestion and workflow management.
  • Ensure secure communication through robust authentication and access control (including role-based access and service-to-service authentication).
  • Operate the platform across development, staging, and production (Infrastructure as Code, database migrations, and observability).

 

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 4+ years of professional experience as a full-stack engineer, with proficiency in both backend and frontend development.
  • Backend: Proficiency in Go and/or Python (FastAPI), with comfort in layered/clean architectures and relational databases.
  • Frontend: Proficiency in modern frameworks such as Next.js and React, including typed API clients and state management (e.g. TanStack Query, Zod).
  • Cloud / Infrastructure: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, and the ability to design and implement infrastructure using IaC tools such as Terraform.
  • Leadership / Management: Experience leading and driving technical decisions with initiative as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Manager, or equivalent.
  • Ability to build applications while collaborating across disciplines, working with operators, the VLA team, and robotics engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with (or a solid understanding of) the full development lifecycle: requirements definition, design, implementation, testing, release, and operations/maintenance.
  • Understanding of real-time communication protocols (e.g. WebSocket, SSE, WebRTC).
  • Business-level Japanese communication skills (equivalent to JLPT N2 or above, or several years of work experience at a Japanese company). Able to collaborate smoothly with Japanese-speaking colleagues to get work done, and to receive inquiries and bug reports in Japanese and follow through with explanation and support.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
  • Experience with large-scale data processing.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2 and related web tools (e.g. ROSBridge, Foxglove, Webviz).
  • Experience with Scrum or other agile development processes.
  • Experience developing real-time dashboards.
  • Familiarity with operational best practices including observability, CI/CD, and incident response.
  • Proficiency in implementing and maintaining automated testing across all levels (unit, integration, E2E).
