At Indeed, our primary technology stack is Java-based, but we believe strongly in using the right tool for the right job. As such, we’re rapidly adopting emerging best-of-breed technologies and incorporating them into our stack. This includes things like React/Redux, React Native, Python/Django, MongoDB, Go, and Kubernetes, to name a few. Who You Are

Responsibilities

Design, develop, deploy, and maintain services, systems, and user-facing applications helping 200 million jobseekers every month
Conceive of and implement new features to help connect job seekers and employers
Continually improve code quality, performance and reliability

We're looking for someone who

Has a passion for building elegant, scalable software that solves practical problems and helps people get jobs
Thrives in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
Loves to learn and develop new skills continuously
Has a strong sense of ownership in every application they build

Requirements

BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Significant practical experience with at least one of the following languages: Java, C++, C#, Python, Go
Demonstrated ability to operate as a high-performing member of a small, cross-functional team
5+ years experience in software development

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building solutions for high traffic web sites
Real-world, experience with one or more of the following, at scale: MySQL, Hadoop (CDH5), ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ
Demonstrated ability to work with Product Management to define priorities, and provide technical direction for a small team (3-5) of engineers

Japanese Language Policy
Indeed's primary language is is English. There are teams internally that work on products focused on the Japanese market, and these teams will need to know Japanese.
Visa Sponsorship
Indeed sponsors Japanese visas for engineers. The only condition is that you meet the requirements of the Japanese government (but this is the case at every company). This usually means that you'll need a bachelor's degree or 10 years of demonstrated work experience in your field.
Paid Leave
Indeed offers an open vacation policy to full-time employees across all of their global offices. This means that there's no limit on paid time off. There aren't many companies doing this in Tokyo so it's a pretty nice perk.

Engineer Interview Process
Indeed's interview process varies a bit based on the role, but for engineers it's usually something along these lines:
- Whiteboard coding challenges
- Resume-focused, soft-skills conversational interviews
- Code review exercises
- Architecture discussions
- Management interviews (if applicable)
During the onsite round (which can be done via video chat if you're overseas), you'll meet with a few different members plus some senior managers. If you're visiting the office in person, you'll have the chance to check out the office and have lunch with your potential teammates.
