Software Engineering Manager - Search Machine Learning Platform

The Search Machine Learning Platform team builds the end-to-end machine learning platform that supports Indeed’s most mission and performance-critical products. The team’s mission is to provide the machine learning platform that leverages Indeed’s massive volume of data and incorporates the latest machine learning trends and technologies to power critical products like job search and recommendation teams. We strive to enable teams across Indeed to match every job seeker with the most relevant jobs. The team also ‘dogfoods’ the platform to serve and iteratively improve machine learning models used in all aspects of the job search experience.

As the Software Engineering Manager for this team, you will partner with your team and lead the machine-learning platform evolution that will serve Indeed for years to come. You will lean on the team’s and your technical expertise to serve Indeed’s unique machine learning challenges. You will partner with both engineers and data scientists across Indeed products to this end.

You are comfortable learning new things on the fly and helping your team learn unfamiliar systems and technology. You make pragmatic technology decisions to balance scalability, speed to market, and long-term maintainability. You use documentation effectively as a tool to teach and communicate. You work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure impact is delivered.

You understand that the best managers serve their teams, removing roadblocks and giving individual contributors autonomy and ownership. You lead engineering teams and earn the respect of talented software developers. You are equally happy talking about algorithms and data structures as you are brainstorming about the agile development process and technology career development. You want to be in the mix technically while providing leadership to your teams.

Who You Are

• BS or MS in Computer Science or related areas
• 5+ years experience programming and building high-performance distributed systems, data processing pipelines, or company-wide platforms
• 3+ years experience as an Engineering Manager coaching and growing an agile process team of Software Engineers, while helping them improve their skills and grow in their career
• Solid experience working across organization with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Data Scientists
• Experience with large scale data engineering pipelines or machine learning platforms
• Experience with at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Kotlin, C++, Python, C#

Nice to have 

• A strong knowledge and experience of search engine technology such as Elasticsearch, Solr and/or Lucene
• A strong knowledge and experience of big data & machine-learning related technologies like Spark, Hive, Presto, Kafka, Spark ML, Tensorflow, Pytorch, AWS Sagemaker, TFX
• Experience building cloud-based solutions on AWS and/or service-oriented system architectures
• Experience building and iterating on machine learning solutions for critical applications
