About The Company
OWNDAYS (part of Lenskart) is a leading eyewear company that offers a wide range of high-quality spectacles to customers worldwide. Established in Tokyo, Japan in 1989, the company has grown to over 500 stores across 13 countries and has become one of the most trusted and innovative eyewear brands in Asia.
As we continue modernizing our global technology platform, we're looking for exceptional technical leaders who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and building scalable solutions that power our business around the world.
Company Mission
Our mission goes beyond providing clear vision—we strive to enrich our customers' daily lives through innovation, exceptional customer experiences, and technology that connects our stores, ecommerce platforms, and operations seamlessly across every market.
About The Role
We are looking for an exceptional Lead Solutions Architect who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys solving complex technical problems from first principles.
This is not a traditional Solutions Architect role, nor is it a typical Product Manager position.
Instead, you'll act as the technical counterpart to our business Product Managers and serve as an internal technical SWAT team, tackling the organization's most challenging technical problems—from production incidents and system integrations to designing entirely new platform capabilities.
One week you may be tracing inventory discrepancies across multiple systems by diving into databases, APIs, logs, and event flows. The next, you may be architecting a new customer-facing capability, designing an integration between enterprise systems, or leading the migration of legacy platforms to modern cloud-native architectures.
You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, developers, infrastructure teams, QA, and business stakeholders to transform complex business problems into elegant, scalable technical solutions.
This role requires someone who enjoys wearing many hats—solution architect, technical product manager, systems thinker, engineer, and technical leader.
Reporting to the Head of IT, you will collaborate with teams across Japan, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and other global markets.
Native or fluent Japanese (N1) and English are required.
What You'll Do
Solve the Problems That Don't Have Owners
- Lead technical investigations into complex production issues spanning multiple systems
- Diagnose difficult cross-functional problems involving APIs, databases, integrations, middleware, infrastructure, and distributed services
- Work from first principles to identify root causes rather than treating symptoms
- Act as the technical escalation point for high-impact business and engineering challenges
- Rapidly triage incidents and coordinate technical response across engineering teams
Architect Scalable Solutions
- Design end-to-end technical solutions for new products, services, and platform capabilities
- Create scalable architectures that balance business needs, technical constraints, security, performance, and long-term maintainability
- Evaluate multiple implementation approaches and recommend the optimal solution
- Design APIs, event-driven architectures, data models, integrations, and cloud-native solutions
- Produce architecture diagrams, technical specifications, sequence diagrams, and implementation plans
Partner with Product Managers
- Serve as the technical counterpart to business Product Managers throughout the product lifecycle
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
- Challenge assumptions and identify hidden technical complexity early
- Help shape implementation strategy before engineering begins
- Ensure delivered solutions meet both business objectives and engineering standards
Lead Technical Execution
- Break complex initiatives into executable engineering workstreams
- Partner closely with software engineers to divide and conquer large technical initiatives
- Review solution designs and implementation plans
- Remove technical blockers and help engineering teams make sound architectural decisions
- Coordinate delivery across globally distributed engineering teams
Build and Improve Platforms
- Design integrations across ecommerce, retail, ERP, CRM, payment, inventory, logistics, identity, and third-party systems
- Drive modernization of legacy systems and technical architecture
- Plan data migrations, platform upgrades, and large-scale system transformations
- Improve system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational efficiency
- Reduce technical debt through thoughtful architectural improvements
Who We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, technical product management, or related technical leadership roles
- Strong software engineering background with hands-on development experience
- Experience designing complex distributed systems and enterprise integrations
- Strong understanding of APIs, databases, cloud architecture, networking, authentication, and system design
- Comfortable debugging production systems and investigating issues across multiple technology stacks
- Experience working directly with engineering teams to deliver large-scale software solutions
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for business stakeholders
- Excellent analytical and structured problem-solving abilities
- Native or fluent Japanese (N1) and English
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Product Manager
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with enterprise retail, ecommerce, ERP, OMS, POS, CRM, or supply chain systems
- Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architecture, CI/CD, Kubernetes, observability, and DevOps practices
- Experience leading global engineering initiatives across multiple countries
- Experience modernizing legacy enterprise systems
What Makes Someone Successful
The ideal candidate enjoys tackling problems that don't have obvious answers.
You don't wait for someone to tell you where the issue is—you investigate, ask questions, analyze data, review logs, inspect databases, and work collaboratively with engineers to uncover the root cause.
You can move comfortably between technical architecture discussions, SQL queries, API debugging, whiteboarding system designs, sprint planning, stakeholder meetings, and production incident response.
You combine the curiosity of an engineer, the systems thinking of an architect, and the execution mindset of a technical product leader.
Why Join OWNDAYS
You'll help shape the future technology platform behind one of Asia's fastest-growing global retailers.
This role offers the opportunity to solve meaningful technical challenges at scale, influence architecture across multiple countries, and work alongside talented business and engineering teams to build the next generation of omnichannel retail experiences.
