Senior Software Engineer

We’re on the lookout for a Senior Software Engineer who’s excited about building scalable systems, wrangling cloud infrastructure, and helping the team ship high-quality code faster. If you love AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, TypeScript and Ruby on Rails this might be your next big move.

This role is based in Tokyo, but we work in an international environment (business-level English is all you need).

Software products at Section L

We are building a suite of applications that fulfill different needs of our guests throughout their stay with us. This includes:

• A check-in app that allows guests to have a contactless and fuss-free arrival experience.
• A guest experience/loyalty app that provides everything guests will need during their stay and allow them to connect with our front desk staff, like-minded travelers, local neighbors and have a memorable experience.
• An admin app that ties everything together for Section L staff to better manage information and fulfill guests' needs.
• Integration with 3rd party Property Management System that allows us to connect our applications to the reservations

We’re also innovating new solutions tailored to our upcoming hotel projects and the unique needs of different teams across the company.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architecting & scaling systems that are secure, reliable, and built to last.
• Owning cloud infrastructure with AWS + Terraform (IaC is your playground).
• Making deployments smooth & fast with CI/CD pipelines.
• Hunting down bottlenecks and tuning for performance.
• Keeping systems secure & compliant without slowing things down.
• Reviewing code and raising the bar for clean, maintainable solutions.
• Mentoring teammates and leading technical discussions that move us forward.

Our tech stack:

• Frontend: Vue.js, Typescript, Tailwind
• Backend: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, AWS Lambda, Node.js, AWS DynamoDB
• Infra: AWS, Terraform, Heroku
• Other: Github, Linear, Strapi, Sentry, Slack Bots, Grafana

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience (bonus if you’ve led projects before).
• Strong skills with AWS + Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and site reliability.
• Hands-on with JavaScript and TypeScript, React Native, Ruby on Rails (or similar).
• Comfortable with Git, VS Code, Linear, and modern dev tools.
• Business-level English (that’s our working language).
• A love for solving tough problems, writing clean code, and helping others grow.
