Staff Engineer - Realtime and Personalization

Your Role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our high-performing team in Tokyo. This is a pivotal role working at the intersection of our Realtime Engine and AI Personalization products. You will act as a technical anchor, driving the design of distributed systems that allow our AI Personalization suite to operate in real-time with high availability and reliability.

What You Will Do

• Technical Design: Drive specifications and implementation for the Personalization and Realtime engine using Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, and TypeScript (AWS Lambda).
• Distributed Systems: Architect complex systems on AWS to handle high-throughput data processing using MemoryDB and DynamoDB with low latency.
• AI Integration: Lead the effort to integrate AI Agent creation and execution capabilities into our core platform, building the infrastructure for intelligent agents.
• Squad Leadership: Partner with PMs and EMs to break down requirements into executable tasks, serving as a technical lead and mentor for senior and mid-level engineers.
• Operational Excellence: Champion scalability, observability, and security, treating production operations and on-call rotations as top-tier priorities.

About You

• Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record in complex backend systems.
• Technical Depth: Significant experience with high-performance Web APIs and serverless applications. Deep expertise in NoSQL data modeling (DynamoDB/MemoryDB) is essential.
• AWS Mastery: Deep familiarity with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, Kinesis, RDS).
• AI/ML Interest: Experience or strong interest in integrating AI/ML workflows, such as agent orchestration or LLM APIs, into backend architectures.
• Communication: Business-level English proficiency with the ability to bridge distributed teams across North America and Japan in an async-first workflow.

Bonus Points

• Experience with Event-Driven Architectures.
• Knowledge of AI frameworks like LangChain from an infrastructure perspective.
