Blockchain Engineer (Tokenized Deposit Business)

Job Overview

1. Role Overview

As part of a new business initiative building next-generation financial systems, you will work with the team on the design, development, and operation of blockchain-related systems.

You will collaborate closely with Product Managers and engineers across different technical domains, leveraging a broad range of technologies to build financial infrastructure designed for global deployment.

Your responsibilities will span the design of highly available APIs, optimization of infrastructure through managed cloud services, development of CI/CD pipelines, and technical documentation. You will contribute to building a development environment that balances speed with quality.

In this role, you will also help define the underlying technical direction, development processes, and architectural principles that enable teams to operate autonomously. When requirements are ambiguous or involve emerging technology domains, you will work with stakeholders to build consensus and translate business needs into concrete technical solutions.

Tech Lead

Has experience improving security and performance at a cryptocurrency exchange.

Brings broad expertise across Project Management, Product Ownership, UI/UX, and other areas, and plays a key role in bridging technology and business.

Business Lead

Formerly with JPMorgan and currently leads the digital currency payments business as Vice President of Payment.

Holds the CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) certification.

 

6. Background and Our Challenge

Backend and blockchain technologies are critical components of next-generation financial systems.

They play an essential role in ensuring product scalability, maintainability, security, and seamless integration with other technical domains. These areas require deep technical expertise as well as a long-term perspective to support stable and sustainable product development.

In this role, we expect you to contribute as an engineer with a medium- to long-term perspective, helping improve technology selection and development processes while strengthening our in-house engineering capabilities.

Since its founding in 2018, Datachain has continued to invest in R&D as a Japan-born global deep-tech company, with the goal of creating infrastructure that becomes the de facto industry standard.

As we prepare for a future in which real-world assets (RWAs) such as equities, bonds, and real estate are increasingly represented as digital assets, we are accelerating the development of next-generation financial infrastructure.

We are currently in the early stages of building a new category of financial infrastructure. Our lean Product Management team independently determines what to build, how to prioritize implementation, and how to move initiatives forward by integrating regulatory, technological, and operational perspectives.

We are looking for someone who can help shape and drive the next stage of this initiative with us.

 

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have experience demonstrating strong fundamentals in software implementation, including one or more of the following:

Software Engineering Fundamentals

• Experience developing libraries, frameworks, middleware, or similar software components
• Experience working on technically challenging systems involving:
  • High traffic or high load, such as social games or ad-tech platforms
  • High reliability, such as data platforms or FinTech systems
  • Distributed systems, such as blockchain or IoT platforms
• Strong foundational knowledge of software engineering, including algorithms, data structures, networking, security, and design patterns

Blockchain Development

Experience developing products using blockchain technologies, including one or more of the following:

• Experience designing and implementing smart contracts using technologies such as Solidity or Rust
• Experience building and operating blockchain nodes or related infrastructure
• Experience implementing wallet integrations, transaction signing, or key management
• Experience contributing to services or products utilizing blockchain technologies, such as Web3, DeFi, or NFTs

Cloud Infrastructure

• Experience designing and operating systems using major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Experience using managed services across areas such as compute, storage, databases, networking, serverless computing, containers, and messaging

Language Requirements

• Native or business-level Japanese proficiency
• English proficiency sufficient to understand technical documentation related to systems engineering and apply that knowledge in implementation

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following areas is preferred.

Blockchain and Cryptography

• Zero-Knowledge Proofs, including zk-SNARKs and zk-STARKs
• Multi-Party Computation (MPC) or homomorphic encryption
• Token design and smart contract security audits
• Layer 2 / Rollup technologies and distributed consensus algorithms such as PoS and BFT
• Digital signatures, cryptographic technologies, and identity management, including Passkeys, ECDSA, BLS signatures, and ECIES

Programming Languages

• Development experience using strongly typed languages such as Go, Rust, Kotlin, Java, C#, or C++

Frameworks

• Frontend development using frameworks such as React or Vue
• Backend development using frameworks such as Express, Koa, Spring Boot, or Ktor

Infrastructure and IaC

• Experience designing and building cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Experience developing or operating systems in the financial industry
• Experience designing, operating, or analyzing large-scale data platforms, including work related to data science
• Experience developing IoT or device-based systems using technologies such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or M5Stack

English
