Platform SRE Engineer (Tokenized Deposit Business)
- Remote OK - Anywhere in Japan
- Full-time
- September 7, 2026
Job Overview
1. Background
We aim to provide the infrastructure for the era of on-chain finance by bringing next-generation payment and treasury management platforms into real-world use.
By leveraging distributed technologies and interoperable verification mechanisms, we seek to eliminate inefficiencies in the existing financial system and create a more productive world with less friction.
We are currently focused on developing services related to tokenized deposits using blockchain technology. Drawing on global trends in on-chain finance, including concepts such as Finternet and Unified Ledger, we are building services that leverage the unique characteristics of on-chain finance to solve financial challenges faced by our customers.
Because these services operate as financial systems, they require exceptionally high levels of reliability and security. We are therefore looking for a Platform SRE who can drive the development and implementation of the infrastructure and practices required to achieve these standards.
2. Mission
The first mission of the Platform SRE is to establish the processes, systems, and implementations necessary to ensure the reliability and security of our on-chain financial systems.
Reliability and security are essential to building financial systems that customers can trust. While referring to relevant industry standards and guidelines, you will apply SRE and security best practices both directly and indirectly across the system.
The second mission is to ensure developer productivity and maintain the ease with which the system can evolve.
While preserving the reliability and security requirements expected of financial systems, you will support developers through shared platforms, guardrails, and other enablement mechanisms, contributing to the delivery of customer experiences appropriate for the next generation of financial services.
3. Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure Design and Development
- Drive the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure that ensures reliability and security
- Build environments and mechanisms that enable developers to use cloud resources appropriately and independently
- Establish AI-assisted review processes for infrastructure-as-code to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
Observability
- Introduce and enhance observability platforms that provide visibility into system health and behavior
- Develop logging, metrics, and tracing capabilities to provide an integrated view of the operational status of individual microservices
- Build processes that enable not only on-call engineers but also relevant stakeholders to quickly and accurately understand system conditions by combining AI with telemetry data
Implementation of SRE Practices
- Support the definition and achievement of non-functional requirements, particularly through service catalogs, Critical User Journeys (CUJs), and SLOs
- Develop release processes and pipelines that balance auditability and security with developer productivity
- Promote the use of AI to support alert handling and incident response
Financial Security
- Develop forensic logging capabilities to ensure accountability through accurate root-cause analysis in the event of incidents or system failures
- Develop functionality that ensures auditability for both customers and internal financial operations
- Drive compliance with standards and guidelines related to reliability and security
Scope of Changes to Responsibilities:
Duties may be changed in accordance with the company’s business needs.
4. Why This Role Is Exciting
The emergence of a new generation of financial services built around on-chain infrastructure creates a unique set of challenges and opportunities for Platform SREs. This role offers meaningful and technically challenging work for professionals with experience in Platform Engineering and SRE.
- Pursue advanced DevSecOps practices
Financial systems require strict non-functional standards for reliability and security, while a startup environment also demands rapid development and iteration. Building trustworthy systems in the complex domain of on-chain finance requires a deep understanding of engineering practices, industry precedents, and architectural trade-offs. While challenging, this environment offers significant opportunities for growth as a Platform Engineer or SRE. - Influence system architecture across the organization
Platform SREs are frequently involved in cross-functional technical decisions and therefore have significant opportunities to shape architectural choices that affect all microservice development teams. We are currently at a “Day 1” stage, where many architectural decisions that will influence maintenance and operations for years to come are still being made. This is an ideal environment for engineers who want to contribute from the perspective of architectural soundness and long-term maintainability. - Work within a distributed SRE culture
Our systems follow a microservices architecture, with individual development teams owning and developing their respective functional domains. It is neither realistic nor desirable for Platform SREs and Security Engineers alone to implement all aspects of reliability and security. Instead, we emphasize enabling development teams through shared platforms and guardrails. On-call responsibilities are also primarily owned by each functional domain. This allows Platform SREs to focus on scalable SRE practices and high-leverage improvements in reliability and security while reducing the risk of burnout. - Actively experiment with cutting-edge technologies
Datachain was founded and has grown around blockchain R&D. As long as technologies align with customer needs and business objectives, experimentation and adoption of advanced technologies are actively encouraged. We also recognize that experimentation naturally involves failure and are generally tolerant of it. Recent Platform SRE initiatives include evaluating next-generation lakehouse technologies and experimenting with large-scale AI code generation. Successful approaches are introduced with appropriate operational structures, while unsuccessful ones are quickly reconsidered and replaced. - Build strong teamwork in a fully remote environment
We actively address the communication challenges that can arise in fully remote work. Management, Platform SREs, and engineers across the organization use a variety of practices to maintain close collaboration, including regular cross-team All Hands meetings, informal discussions through Slack Huddles, and continuous use of AI-generated meeting notes. Communication between financial domain experts, Product Managers, and engineers is also encouraged to resolve complex issues quickly. While we operate primarily as a fully remote organization, we occasionally hold off-site meetings for important topics such as team values and overall system architecture.
6. Services You Will Work On
You will participate in the launch and development of new services supporting on-chain financial infrastructure, including tokenized deposits and smart contract-based payment solutions.
7. Technology Stack and Development Environment
Frontend
TypeScript / Vite / Biome / ESLint / Vitest / Storybook / MSW / Sentry, etc.
Backend
Go
Infrastructure
AWS (ECS / Aurora / Kinesis / CDK / etc.), Terraform, Grafana, and related technologies
8. Team Structure
You will work as part of a cross-functional product development team consisting of Product Managers, business planning professionals, Tech Leads, Frontend Engineers, Backend Engineers, Blockchain Engineers, and other specialists.
