Position Overview

As the energy sector undergoes rapid digital transformation, demand for our services continues to grow. To support the next phase of our platform and product expansion, we are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure) to help build, operate, and scale the cloud foundation behind our services.

This role goes beyond traditional infrastructure operations. As a startup, we need an engineer who can combine cloud engineering, SRE, and platform engineering perspectives—someone who can design robust Azure infrastructure, improve developer workflows, and take ownership of non-functional requirements such as reliability, observability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.

You will work closely with application engineers and business stakeholders to support systems that power critical energy services in Japan.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of Bluefield Energy’s cloud infrastructure and shared platform capabilities. Depending on your experience and interests, your responsibilities may include:

  • Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code, primarily with Bicep, and leverage equivalent experience with tools such as Terraform where relevant
  • Build shared platform components, templates, and operational foundations that improve engineering productivity
  • Establish and improve SRE practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, and operational readiness
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency in production environments
  • Design and improve CI/CD and deployment workflows using GitHub Actions and related tooling
  • Partner with software engineers to support cloud-native architecture and smooth service delivery
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous operational improvement
  • Proactively define and improve non-functional requirements across systems and services

Why Join Us

  • Work on socially impactful products in the rapidly growing EnergyTech market
  • Help build the cloud foundation for services that support critical energy infrastructure in Japan
  • Take ownership across cloud engineering, SRE, and platform engineering in a startup environment
  • Work deeply with Microsoft Azure and modern IaC practices centered around Bicep
  • Join a high-caliber team and contribute directly to product and platform decisions

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership in an ambiguous startup environment
  • Strong systems thinker who can balance speed, reliability, and maintainability
  • Interested not only in infrastructure, but also in improving developer experience and operational excellence
  • Able to think beyond functional requirements and proactively design for observability, reliability, and scalability
  • Comfortable collaborating across technical and non-technical teams in both Japanese and English
  • Eager to continuously learn and apply new technologies and design approaches

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or closely related roles
  • Strong hands-on experience building and operating systems on Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Bicep, or equivalent experience with Terraform
  • Experience designing, building, and operating production systems with reliability and operational excellence in mind
  • Solid understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response
  • Ability to communicate in conversational Japanese (basic daily communication required)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Microsoft Azure certifications
  • Experience with GitHub Actions
  • Experience designing or operating large-scale systems
  • Experience owning or improving non-functional requirements such as observability, scalability, fault tolerance, and performance
  • Programming experience in C#, Python, or other backend / scripting languages
  • Experience with Docker
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency (JLPT N2 or above)
