Our Tokyo engineering team is looking for project and product managers to help us continue to grow from Japan’s biggest online English school to a multinational learning platform.

We work as a relatively small team developing and maintaining DMM Eikaiwa and Engoo. We deploy daily and are looking for someone to help us manage the work and deliver large projects in the coming year and beyond. Our team is managed by engineers, who value avoiding meetings and any other unnecessary distractions. This includes making sure everyone has the best tools available, and also means making sure that people have the flexibility to work in the way that suits them best, so they can focus on building.

We have a great set of technology and are looking for people to help us bring it all together into a set of products that form a language learning platform and a self-service video and content platform.

We currently do our project management via GitHub issues but are open to new ways of doing things.

  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Business-level English
  • Proficiency and experience working with developers on technical issues
  • Experience doing product or project management for user-facing web or mobile applications

  • Become familiar enough with our collection of web sites and apps to coordinate projects across teams
  • Coordinate design, development, and testing in parallel to maximize our team’s throughput
  • Identify blocking issues, missed dependencies, or cross-project concerns that need to be communicated
  • Communicate new features and fixes to our multinational teams, training and demoing if necessary
  • Hold regular team catchups to stay on top of projects

Great Extras:

  • Proficiency in Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or Thai
  • Programming or scripting experience
  • Language Education Experience

  • Flex time
  • Remote work
  • Japanese lessons
  • Standard Japanese public holidays and Japanese paid leave, plus 10 additional days paid leave yearly
  • Pension, workers’, and health insurance contributions
  • Equipment—computers, displays, peripherals, and more
  • Visa application and fees
  • 150,000 JPY payment for moving from overseas
  • Two months of accommodation
  • Payment for guarantor fee for first apartment
  • Japanese interpretation assistance
  • Free company counseling

DMM Eikaiwa is Japan’s largest online English School. Their small team develops and maintains an online language learning platform.

Managed by engineers, they value avoiding meetings and unnecessary distractions. They do everything from development to product, design and marketing, and they have full control over what they build and how they work.
