About Infostellar

With the mission of "We connect Earth and Space to empower the future," Infostellar is Japan's first globally-minded startup company. As a GSaaS (Ground Segment as a Service) provider for orbiting satellites, Infostellar supports companies engaged in new satellite-based businesses in mission development and service improvement by lowering the difficulty of constructing ground segments. Through StellarStation, a cloud platform that virtualizes ground station networks, we provide highly flexible and scalable ground station networks. We also provide support for ground segment-side operations necessary for satellite operations, such as obtaining radio station licenses and frequency adjustment work.

We are looking for members to join us in taking on the challenge of the global space business!

About the role

We are building a Golang-based system that connects ground station hardware and the cloud, scattered around the world, using MQTT (in conjunction with serverless environments such as Kubernetes and AWS Lambda).

Your responsibilities will encompass the entire system. You will be involved in a wide range of development, from modems and antenna rotators installed at remote antenna sites and the edge software that controls them, to the path (communication opportunity) scheduling API and web console used daily by satellite operators.

This position primarily involves software engineering. Experience in RF (radio frequency) or ground systems areas, such as satellite tracking, modems, spectrum analyzers, and signal troubleshooting, would be a significant advantage.

What you'll do

  • Design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of systems that virtualize diverse ground station networks worldwide on a single platform.
  • Building fast and scalable backend services using the Go language (path cloud scheduling management, data distribution, ground station management, etc. on a global cloud infrastructure).
  • Building and operating an MQTT-based data path for fast and reliable transmission and reception of commands, telemetry, and mission data between ground stations and the cloud.
  • Development of an intuitive and flexible service management UI (path cloud scheduling, SLA monitoring, billing dashboard, etc.)
  • This initiative aims to minimize the barriers to entry for satellite operators and ground station partners connecting to the platform, thereby accelerating network expansion.
  • Development of software that communicates with modems, antenna drivers, and receivers via TCP/IP and serial protocols.
  • Creating tools to improve the efficiency, scalability, security, and reliability of the platform, as well as to reduce vulnerabilities and automate routine tasks.
  • Conducting design and code reviews, developing using agile processes, and managing the prioritization, deadlines, and deliverables of one's own tasks.

Job opportunities for those with expertise in RF (radio frequency) fields

  • Developing and maintaining processes for onboarding low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and ground stations onto our proprietary platform "StellarStation," and managing projects from proposal to integrated testing and full-scale operation.
  • Remote and on-site evaluation of customer and partner wireless systems, analysis of recorded/videotaped signals, and troubleshooting across the entire signal path.
  • Block/script creation for GNU Radio and operation of software-defined radio (SDR).
  • Various settings and operational verification of ground station equipment

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

(These are a set of skills that the entire team will cover. You don't need to possess all of them yourself; having key strengths in these areas is welcome.)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Development experience in Linux/Unix environments
  • Development experience using two or more general-purpose programming languages (experience with Go and Python is welcome; willingness and ability to learn new languages as needed).
