Cloud Engineer - McKinsey Digital

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You’ll work with McKinsey Digital in Tokyo.  This group brings together the best of McKinsey’s digital capabilities to help our clients use digital technology to transform their businesses.

As part of this group, you’ll join a global team working on everything from IT modernization and strategy to agile, cloud, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. You’ll typically work on projects across all industries and functions and will be fully integrated with the rest of our global firm. You’ll also work with colleagues from across McKinsey & Company to help our clients deliver breakthrough products, experiences, and businesses, both on technology and non-technology topics.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• You will serve large corporate clients on engagements to develop digital businesses, whether in a blueprint/design phase, build-out phase, or boosting/growth phase.

• In this role, you will develop the blueprints of commonly used application services. You will contribute and learn multiple technology skills (cloud, container orchestration, network, operating system) with a strong focus on opensource products.

• You will work with various product teams with a focus on high application reliability, scalability and availability running in container infrastructure. You will help develop and operate multiple complex features and components simultaneously that includes cloud adoption plans, cloud native application blueprints and cloud orchestration and monitoring. Lastly, you will focus heavily on development of reusable solutions and underlying automation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or equivalent

• 4+ years of experience in cloud engineering

• 2+ years of experience in maintenance of on-premises system architecture

• Native Japanese speaker with Fluent English (TOEIC score: above 850 will be recommended)

• Hands on engineering experience with at least two of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba, OpenStack, etc.)

• Good understanding of secure coding practices, code quality and engineering practices such as test-driven development

• Experience with DevOps tools for CI/CD and version control

• Solid knowledge in serverless architecture, and hands on experience to design solution in managed service or serverless

• Strong understanding of API design like REST, GraphQL and API Gateway

• Good understanding of microservices and distributed system

• Hands on experience with programming and scripting language (e.g., Python, Go, Java)

• Ability to build architectural solutions as infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Cloud Formation) based on Cloud native products like Lambda functions or RDS and containerization like Docker and Kubernetes

• Strong understanding of presentation tiers (Apache, Tomcat, Nginx) and its framework like React, Vue, Next JS

• Good understanding of standard networking protocols and components such as HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP and load balancing

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization

• Play an active role in the community, i.e., speaking at conferences, blogging, contributing to opensource projects, etc.
