Overview

At Money Forward Inc., we are dedicated to transforming financial services using advanced technology. With over 50 services for individuals and businesses, including popular products like Money Forward ME and Money Forward Cloud, we help make managing money easier.

Within the Money Forward Business Segment (MFBS), our Business Platform Development (BPD) division builds the common foundations that unify these services and ensures their stable use across the company. We are responsible for shared microservices and backend systems that power workflows and platform functionality across Money Forward Cloud.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who can balance people leadership, delivery ownership, and technical direction. In this role, you will guide Agile execution, align stakeholders, and support engineers through coaching, feedback, and clear prioritization.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering team by improving delivery quality and productivity through clear goals and strong collaboration.
  • Own people management, including coaching, career development, performance evaluation, and hiring, within a global engineering organization.
  • Take accountability for delivery and execution across projects in collaboration with Product Managers and Tech Leads.
  • Guide Agile execution at the team level, ensuring planning and prioritization support predictable delivery.
  • Act as a key communication bridge between engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Support technical direction and quality by working closely with Tech Leads on design discussions and reviews.
  • Monitor team health and delivery metrics using tools such as Jira to drive continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer, with sufficient technical depth to guide design discussions.
  • Proven experience managing engineers (typically 5+), including coaching, performance evaluation, and hiring.
  • Experience leading or managing development teams in an Agile environment.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (PdMs, designers, business teams).
  • Experience working with globally distributed or multinational engineering teams, including communication in English.
  • Solid understanding of backend systems, software architecture, and modern web services.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience as a Tech Lead or EM in an organization of 10+ engineers.
  • Experience designing, developing, or operating cloud-based systems and microservices.
  • Familiarity with modern platform architectures, including distributed systems or event-driven designs.
  • Experience improving services over a long lifecycle (modernization, refactoring, stability).
  • Experience with AI-assisted development or productivity tools (e.g., AI coding assistants).

Language Requirements

  • English: Business level proficiency (TOEIC 700+ equivalent).
  • Japanese: Not required, but nice to have.

Technology Stack & Tools

  • Languages: Go, Java
  • Databases: MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis
  • Infrastructure: AWS (EKS, RDS, S3, SQS, etc.), Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, Kafka
  • CI/CD & Monitoring: Argo CD, Circle CI, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Rollbar, Sentry
  • AI Tools: Claude Code, Cursor, and other AI productivity tools

Work Environment

  • Provided PC Specs: Latest CPU-equipped PC (MacOS or Windows). Custom-made PCs tailored to business requirements are possible.
  • Development Support: Peripherals (displays, mice, keyboards) can be purchased as office supplies.
  • Money Forward Library: System to borrow or purchase technical/management books at company expense.
  • Referral & Conferences: Referral reward system and partial support for domestic/international conferences (e.g., Google I/O).
