Job Description

PayPay is looking for a DBA to work on our payment system to deliver the best payment experience for our Japanese customers.

Main Responsibilities

Database operations, including monitoring, configuration management, upgrade, scaling, backup, and data migration

Troubleshoot stability and performance problems

Educate software engineers on database best practices

Research and test new tools in database ecosystems, and adopt them in PayPay

Qualifications

More than 3 years of DBA experience. Among 3 years, minimum of 1 year with using MySQL.

Experience in distributed database, such as Cassandra, DynamoDB, TiDB or HBase, Elasticsearch.

Familiar with and specialized in one relational database's configuration, backup, optimization, and monitoring. Possess deep insight and knowledge about your expertise.

Familiar with shell and Python

Preferred Qualifications

Familiar with Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS

Experience troubleshooting critical issues online

Experience working with NoSQL or NewSQL databases

Experience working with TiDB

Japanese Language Policy
At PayPay, there is a mixture of Japanese and English spoken. Around 80% of their product team’s discussions happen in English, and they have technical interpreters and translators on staff to facilitate any translation necessary. Some members can speak both English and Japanese, but some can only speak either English or Japanese.

PayPay doesn’t have an official shared language, but in practice English tends to be the primary language used for internal communications and technical discussions like code reviews.

Instead of requiring that everyone be able to speak a specific language, PayPay expects an ability to communicate with mutual respect and a drive to ensure that you’re understood. The product team values proactive communication highly.

3) 1 - 3 Interviews (online)

Work style
PayPay has introduced a highly unique “Working From Anywhere at Anytime” (WFA) HR system.

They work fully remotely, so as long as you’re in Japan you can generally live and work from wherever you want. Of course, there may be times you’re asked to come to the office for teambuilding and other activities (typically 1-2 times a month).

This system enables members to receive salary and benefits relative to a world-class city and work with world-class peers without actually having to live in a city. ※ Currently, remote work is limited to within Japan. There is no support for working from abroad at this time.

Work hours
- In principle, from 10:00am to 18:45pm (actual working hours: 7h45m＋1 hour lunch break from 12pm to 13pm in principle)
  ※ We use super flextime system which do not set core hours and also we may have overtime work based on business needs.
