Job Description

TableCheck, Japan’s leading restaurant reservation management platform, is seeking a Backend Developer experienced in API design and development. As a member of our team you will scope, architect, and build critical components which integrate with numerous
internal and third-party systems.

Responsibilities

Design and code APIs for customer, vendor, and internal use
Create integrations with 3rd party APIs
Create clear and concise documentation
Interact with vendors
General backend development
Task management

Mandatory Skills

5+ years of backend development
3+ years Ruby on Rails
3+ years MongoDB or PostgreSQL

Recommended Skills

Previous startup experience highly desired
WeChat Mini Program development experience
Software security
Test-driven development
Payment gateway integration
Any of Elixir/Phoenix, Scala, Go, or Python

Language Skills

Business level English
Native level Chinese preferred

Evaluation Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their technical skill, cultural fit, and strength of their previous experience.
Applicants will be asked to complete a small coding project for evaluation purposes.

About TableCheck

TableCheck is changing the online reservation business by connecting millions of diners around the world to the restaurants they love. We help diners make restaurant reservations, and we help merchants manage table inventory, enrich dining experiences, and visualize multi-property analytics to gain insights into restaurant performance. Our goal is to both inform and delight.

We're remote-first, having an asynchronous style working, with employees spread throughout Asia and Europe working on the same team. As such, communication and documentation are in our blood. Our engineering team communicates in English, and so we generally don't require Japanese skills. We also welcome applicants currently outside Japan. If you want to relocate here, we can sponsor your visa. We're also open to remote candidates who do not plan to relocate.

Japanese Language Policy
TableCheck's official language is English, and we generally don't require Japanese skills for IT or engineering staff. We speak English at work and have many non-Japanese developers, but most staff outside of their engineering department is Japanese, so we consider Japanese ability to be a plus.
Visa Sponsorship
TableCheck offers visa support for both new applications and renewals. Additionally, for new hires from abroad we're often open to having applicants work remotely as a consultant while the visa application is in progress.
Paid Leave
TableCheck's vacation policy is in line with Japanese standards. We assume this means 10 days of paid time off during your first year with yearly increases according to Japanese law.

Engineer Interview Process
TableCheck's engineering interview process looks something like this:
- Step 1: Resume Review by Hiring Manager
- Step 2: Resume Review by Team
- Step 3: Initial Screening Interview
- Step 4: Interview Round 1

- step 7: Job Offer
Note: We may request more interviews if interviewers are not available on the same day.
Remote Work
TableCheck has a flexible remote work policy.
We don't have any hard rules about the number of in-office vs remote days per week are allowed. Instead we assume that each employee will work with their team and manager to do what's best for both themselves and the company.

Note: We welcome remote work from other countries as long as you can work between 10:00-19:00 JST (or within a few hours of this time).
Work style
TableCheck offers flex time with core hours of 11:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.
