TableCheck, Japan's leading restaurant reservation management platform, is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in fullstack web development. As a Software Engineer at TableCheck, you will lead the full lifecycle of product features — gathering requirements from stakeholders, designing technical architecture, implementing scalable solutions, and iterating based on feedback. You'll serve as both the technical executor and a product expert for critical parts of TableCheck’s user experience.

Technical Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable frontend and backend solutions using React, Node.js, and TypeScript.
Maintain production systems with a focus on code quality, reliability, and performance.
Align with product managers and stakeholders to steer prioritization and technical implementation.
Participate actively in team communication, QA processes, and delivery planning to ensure smooth, high-quality releases.

Requirements

3+ years of experience with relevant technologies like Typescript, ReactJS, and NodeJS
Understands and contributes to the business requirements, and has a burning desire to solve customer problems
Business-level English
Experience working in a Product Team, where you maintained a product in a production setting.
Has strong communication skills and values team over individual.
Moves fast, has a strong bias for impact, and seeks forgiveness, not permission.

Nice to haves

Experience working with Ruby on Rails or other backend frameworks.
Previous startup experience is highly desired.
Experience working in the F&B industry (restaurants, hospitality, reservations).
Experience building and maintaining B2B marketplace platforms.

About TableCheck

TableCheck is changing the online reservation business by connecting millions of diners around the world to the restaurants they love. We help diners make restaurant reservations, and we help merchants manage table inventory, enrich dining experiences, and visualize multi-property analytics to gain insights into restaurant performance. Our goal is to both inform and delight.

We're remote-first, having an asynchronous style working, with employees spread throughout Asia and Europe working on the same team. As such, communication and documentation are in our blood. We look for and write about signals in the noise which enables us to constantly learn and adapt, and we expect members of our teams to constantly follow up with questions and updates to keep everyone in the loop.

Our engineering team communicates in English, and so we generally don't require Japanese skills. We also welcome applicants currently outside Japan. If you want to relocate here, we can sponsor your visa. We're also open to remote candidates who do not plan to relocate.

Japanese Language Policy
TableCheck's official language is English, and we generally don't require Japanese skills for IT or engineering staff. We speak English at work and have many non-Japanese developers, but most staff outside of their engineering department is Japanese, so we consider Japanese ability to be a plus.
Visa Sponsorship
TableCheck offers visa support for both new applications and renewals. Additionally, for new hires from abroad we're often open to having applicants work remotely as a consultant while the visa application is in progress.
Paid Leave
TableCheck's vacation policy is in line with Japanese standards. We assume this means 10 days of paid time off during your first year with yearly increases according to Japanese law.

Engineer Interview Process
TableCheck's engineering interview process looks something like this:

Note: We may request more interviews if interviewers are not available on the same day.
Remote Work
TableCheck has a flexible remote work policy.
We don't have any hard rules about the number of in-office vs remote days per week are allowed. Instead we assume that each employee will work with their team and manager to do what's best for both themselves and the company.

Note: We welcome remote work from other countries as long as you can work between 10:00-19:00 JST (or within a few hours of this time).
Work style
TableCheck offers flex time with core hours of 11:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.
