Job Description

As Developer you play an important role in the future of iChoosr. At iChoosr, the IT Team is not positioned on the side-line, but right in the middle of the business. You actively participate in the search for the best solution for the end user.

You are, together with your colleagues in the development team in Europe, responsible for the front- and backend of the applications related to the group buying projects and other future activities.
You will analyze the existing functionality and features of the iChoosr web applications and write automated test scripts to ensure that the applications perform as expected.
You work very closely with the local business team on translating and implementing Japan-specific features, and as such are the “connector” between the business team in Tokyo and the developers in Europe.

Who are we looking for?

You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or related area; supplemented with 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience.
You have experience working in a development team (3-5 persons).
You are an excellent communicator; you are social, and you can translate your technical knowledge to fellow developers, and other stakeholders.
You have experience in developing web applications for consumers (B2C) and understand the importance of usability, SEO and customer journeys.
You have experience in creating and maintaining automated test scripts.
You have previously worked in an Agile environment. You are flexible enough to adapt to changes that belong to a fast-growing organization.
You are innovative and creative: you think out-of-the-box, you can easily see connections and you can translate best practices from other contexts to iChoosr’s business and practice.
You dare to take risks and feel good in an environment where "Fail fast, learn fast" is the motto.
English is the official language in our organization.
You live within 1-hour commute time of our Meguro Tokyo office.

We are looking for a developer who is willing to continuously develop him/herself. The following technologies should be part of your knowledge set:

Work Style

Contract-type: Permanent with 3-month probational period

Number of hours: full-time (80% possible)

We believe in the power of united consumers. That is why we organize group buying projects for solar panel systems and renewable energy. The idea is simple: together you get a better deal than alone. iChoosr wants all stakeholders involved to benefit: consumers, partners and suppliers. Over 2,5 million households have now switched to a renewable energy contract or had a solar system installed on their roof and saved money in a very easy way through our group buying projects.

We always organize our group buying programs together with partners which we call community leaders. Community leaders are organizations know and trusted by consumers as standing on their side, like prefectures, cities, wards or coops. The brand and the trust of consumers in the community leader is used to give consumers enough confidence to participate in our group buying programs on a large scale. In Japan we already partner with Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, Kawasaki City, Sagamihara City, Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City, Osaka Prefecture and Suita City.

Three years ago we started an office in Tokyo for our activities in Japan. As the number of projects is growing, we are expanding our team here.

Engineer Interview Process
Engineering Jobs

1. First meeting with CTO and HR

This first step is a +/- 1-hour meeting to get to know iChoosr. You will meet Irsan Widarto, our Chief Technology Officer and Raf Scroyen, our Manager People & Organization (HR). They will explain to you more about iChoosr and the role. They want to get to know you and see if you could match the company culture and the role. This interview will be conducted over video chat.

2. Take-home Project & meet colleague developers

To get an even better idea of your skills, we will ask you to complete a take-home coding assignment (it should take max 2-3 hours). This gives you a chance to show off your code design skills but more important the way you think and handle things. During a video meeting, two of our European Developers will discuss the assignment with you.

3. Final Interview

The third and final interview will be with our Country Manager in our Tokyo office. You’ll learn more about what it’s like to work with us in our Tokyo office.

4. The offer

If you have convinced us that you are the right candidate for this position, we will present you a written offer which could be the start of a great journey at iChoosr.
Remote Work
In consultation with your manager working from your home office will also be possible for 1 to 2 days a week after the COVID-19 situation.
