About KOMOJU

KOMOJU (by Degica) is the leading cross-border payment gateway for Japan; we power payments for companies like video game distribution platform Steam and the popular mobile app TikTok. Today we help thousands of merchants by providing them with the payment infrastructure they need, through developer-friendly API’s to integrations on popular platforms like Shopify and Wix; we help our merchants grow in all markets they are expanding.

About the Position

We are looking for an iOS developer to help build out KOMOJU’s merchant-facing application. This is a unique opportunity to shape how merchants begin their journey at KOMOJU. You will be creating mobile experience from onboarding to managing financials, viewing reports and accepting payments through Tap-to-Pay. You’ll be building the app from the ground up, so you’ll have significant influence over technical and product direction, architecture, and coding standards.

We're looking for someone who has experience creating smooth, intuitive user experiences and who brings a strong sense of ownership to the entire product lifecycle - from design to production.

Our ideal candidate has extensive experience working on mobile applications on iOS and can also collaborate with Android engineers to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences across both platforms. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn other languages and platforms and contribute across different tech stacks to ship the best mobile experiences on both iOS and Android.

While we are a remote-first company, this position is based in Tokyo, and we expect candidates to be willing to relocate to Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Develop KOMOJU application on the iOS platform.
  • Collaborate with product managers and other developers to define, design, and ship new features.
  • Technical design and architecture review across both mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
  • Work across tech stacks with backend engineers to design and implement features for mobile applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong experience with modern iOS SDK and mobile development lifecycle.
  • General knowledge of Android platform and Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect mobile applications to back-end services.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile UI/UX principles, best practices and Apple’s and Google’s design guidelines.
  • Generalist (T-shaped developer), able to jump between multiple areas of our tech stack to get the job done.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of cross-platform frameworks for iOS and Android.
  • Experience working for a Japanese business.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in Japanese.

Benefits

  • At Degica, we embrace remote work while also offering office space for those who prefer in-person collaboration
  • 10 days regular vacation, additional 5 days summer and 5 days winter vacation
  • Paid birthday holiday
  • Budget for self-learning allowance, to ensure our employees’ skills remain current
  • Language training for Japanese

Developer-centric, inclusive culture

Engineers at KOMOJU work in a developer-centric and inclusive culture where engineers have a say in both product and technical decisions. The culture is largely self-organizing, which means engineers have both a stake and ownership in what they work on. Engineers play to their strengths, but are also able to invest in areas where they want to grow within the team. Passionate about technology

Developers at KOMOJU are passionate about their craft. To foster innovation, they have a monthly open hack day where developers can work on whatever they want. It could be trying a new programming language or tool, fixing a long-standing annoyance, or something fun and experimental, like building a game.
