Backend Engineer (Money Forward Kessai - Fukuoka)

Overview

As a Backend Engineer, you will lead the development of “Money Forward Pay for Business,” a cashless platform that promotes digital transactions through a variety of payment methods—including card and wallet payments—while streamlining back-office operations.

As the product scales, we must quickly deliver new functions to meet user needs while maintaining stable operations and high service quality. We are looking for an engineer with deep expertise in web application construction and modern development methods who values both development speed and high-quality application design.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop products and features primarily using Ruby on Rails.
• Understand business requirements and design high-level architecture.
• Create system requirements encompassing both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Write, test, and review high-quality code.
• Mentor and educate team members through hands-on coding and guidance.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders.
• Actively promote the globalization of the team.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Deep understanding of web service development and microservices.
• Successful track record of shipping production-ready, quality software.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative "team player" mindset.
• Experience in AI development or utilizing AI productivity tools.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience using AI tools to improve development processes (e.g., AI coding assistants).
• Interest in Money Forward's AI Strategy roadmap, which focuses on AI-driven operational efficiencies and integrating AI agents into our products.

Language Requirements

• English: TOEIC 700 or higher (or equivalent qualifications like IELTS 5.0+, TOEFL iBT 60+, etc.).
  • Note: Candidates without a valid certificate may be required to take a company-designated exam during the selection process.
• Japanese: Not required (though fluency is preferred).
