We are working to provide the best financial services to users in Japan. We empower PayPay product by realizing efficient, stable and optimized storage services. PayPay is looking for Platform Engineers who specialize in databases at scale on mission critical systems.

Team Missions

Make sure to satisfy requirements for datastores in PayPay
Provide support for application teams to keep sustainable operations
R&D to resolve issues from datastore perspective

Main Responsibilities

Database operations, including monitoring, configuration management, upgrade, scaling, backup, and data migration
Iterate on database operations to improve quality and efficiency
Troubleshoot stability and performance problems
Contribute to documentation for communicating knowledge, experience and for effective decision-making
Research and test new tools in database ecosystems, and adopt them in PayPay

Qualifications

More than 5 years of DBA experience
with a minimum of 3 years MySQL experience
OR
with a minimum of 3 years Redis/DynamoDB experience
More than 3 years of AWS experience
Hands-on experience with Infra as Code (IaC - terraform)
Interested in new technologies and willing to improve operational quality and efficiency
Familiar with shell and programming language for scripting (Python, Go, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in automating operations related to Database or AWS
Familiarity with Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes
Working experience in a full remote environment
Experience in operating distributed systems
Experience working with NewSQL databases (like TiDB)
Experience with DBs cost reduction

Japanese Language Policy
At PayPay, there is a mixture of Japanese and English spoken. Around 80% of their product team’s discussions happen in English, and they have technical interpreters and translators on staff to facilitate any translation necessary. Some members can speak both English and Japanese, but some can only speak either English or Japanese.

PayPay doesn’t have an official shared language, but in practice English tends to be the primary language used for internal communications and technical discussions like code reviews.

Instead of requiring that everyone be able to speak a specific language, PayPay expects an ability to communicate with mutual respect and a drive to ensure that you’re understood. The product team values proactive communication highly.

Engineer Interview Process
PayPay's Hiring process are as below:
- Application Review (English CV is required)
- Coding Test or Take Home Assignment (only applied to required positions)
- 3-4 Interviews (including both technical and behavioral interviews)
