Job Description

AtHearth’s software engineers develop a real estate platform that helps expats in order to complete the move-in process online. The platform also calculates credit scores so we can solve the guarantee issue. A full-stack engineer will work on back-end and front-end development.

Responsibilities

Both back-end and front-end coding based on the product direction

Your Qualifications

Required

Visa Sponsorship - Permission to work in Japan required
At a minimum knowledge of Linux system
Web development experience for 3 years

Work Style

Contract-type: Permanent full-time position (There is a trial period for three days and a paid outsourcing term for three months. )

Working Hours: Discretionary labor: Actual working hours are flexible, but in general we expect 8 hours of work per day, with core time from 10:00 to 17:00 on Monday through Friday.

Work Holidays: Saturday, Sunday, Public holidays, 10 paid days starting 3 months after joining

About AtHearth

AtHearth is a small startup that runs a unique service to help foreigners find apartments in Japan. Their service tackles a real problem faced by many foreigners here so we're rooting for their success. They typically require N2-level Japanese skills for engineers, but most of their members speak English well.

Discrimination of foreign residents during housing rental agreements is common in Japan, but AtHearth aims to remove this discrimination and create a society where foreign residents can live wherever they want without hassle. They also offer general assistance for their clients in getting used to their life in Japan, helping out with the various challenges of getting settled in Japan.

Japanese Language Policy
AtHearth requires JLPT N2 (business level) Japanese skills for engineers. The CEO and CMO both speak English fluently, and many other staff members can speak conversational English. However, you need to be able to understand written documentation in Japanese and communicate well enough verbally to work autonomously.

The expectations for Japanese are on the high side, so we feel working for AtHearth is a good opportunity for those who want to take their Japanese skills to the next level.

Engineer Interview Process
1. Online interview (15 minutes)
2. Casual team meeting (1 hour)
3. Trial project working with the AtHearth team (up to three days)
The purpose of the trial project period is to confirm that your skills are up to the expected level, so if you prove that in under three days, it may end in less time than that.
Remote Work
AtHearth allows manager level employees to work remotely up to 1 day a week, but everyone else is expected to come into the office.
Work style

They usually work at the office for 7 hours with flex-time work for another 1-2 hours after that.
