Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid, and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

You’ll be responsible for leading the Japan Client Engineering team within Kraken Customer.

Client Engineering works closely with the Delivery team, Product teams, and our Clients to make Kraken the best-in-class solution for energy retailers in the region. Responding to new regulatory requirements, helping clients migrate their customers into Kraken, localizing language and systems, and enhancing core functionality based on client business needs is the day-to-day role of the Client Engineering group. We work across the entire product line.

As Head of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for ensuring we’re working on the highest impact projects and that the engineering team has everything they need to get the job done.

What you'll do

  • Lead the engineering strategy for an established team of 30 engineers across 3 squads in Japan. Optimize the ways of working and drive high performance to increase efficiency, velocity, and capacity.
  • Directly manage 5-7 leads, develop personalized growth plans, and set up succession plans for all key roles.
  • Build strong relationships across delivery, product, and client stakeholders to facilitate strong collaboration across the business. Connect the dots between stakeholders.
  • Capacity planning, hiring planning, and interviewing so that we’re consistently raising the bar and bringing on the right people.
  • Balancing short-term objectives with long-term vision and anticipating the needs of the team, Kraken, and our clients.
  • Roll out global strategic objectives within the team, supporting the team through change, building trust, and managing expectations.
  • Work closely with the Head Of Engineering community and Senior Management to define global strategic direction and objectives, advocating on behalf of the team and their needs.
  • Operate largely independently with little supervision or oversight to achieve group objectives.
  • Drive operational excellence – reduce incidents in production and time to mitigation through quality and ownership.
  • Become an expert in Kraken product capabilities, keep abreast of roadmaps, and be able to talk to clients or prospects about those capabilities alongside our Delivery and Sales teams.

What you'll need

  • A strong sense of delivery - how to balance speed, quality, and competing priorities to hit deadlines and maintain our 100% client migration record
  • Proven experience leading large high-performance teams and driving engineering excellence
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Japanese, with a high degree understanding of Japanese business culture
  • The ability to operate largely independently and make decisions that are in the best interests of Kraken
