Description of Role
We are looking for a versatile designer skilled in designing UI, physical goods, and print materials. Working alongside design leads, you will produce a variety of in-game assets and UI components as well as format artwork for printed goods and events.
We are also seeking a designer who will be comfortable coordinating with various production partners based in Japan.
Responsibilities
- Design a variety of game assets, menus, screen layouts, and other UI components.
- Produce polished 2D graphic assets including icons, buttons, typography, and visual effects.
- Format artwork for printed goods and events, coordinating with our production partners in Tokyo.
- Occasionally produce wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to explore layout options.
- Ensure UI design supports gameplay clarity, accessibility, and aesthetic cohesion.
- Work closely with programmers to clearly outline UI designs and functionality, adjusting for in-engine constraints.
- Iterate on designs based on internal and player feedback.
- Collaborate with narrative and art teams to ensure visual consistency across the game’s style.
Requirements
- Native English ability.
- 2-3+ years of professional experience in UI/UX or graphic design, preferably in games or interactive media.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating UI for games, apps, or other interactive experiences.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar.
- Excellent understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, strong use of color, and layout.
- Ability to create unique, eye-catching works that follow established themes/art direction.
- Having profound knowledge/experience of Japanese font design. Additionally, any CJK font experience is desirable.
Favorable Skills
- Strong Japanese proficiency.
- Experience with print media, working with spot colors, and producing specs for print shops.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices for UI design.
- Interest in commercial rhythm games.
- Understanding of game design principles and player-experience flow.
- Familiarity with working with game engines such as Unity.
