teamLab is the "art collective" behind many wildly popular art experiences around Japan. They hire lots of artists, programmers, engineers and animators to do what we can only imagine are some pretty unique visual projects.

  • Salary

In addition to a yearly salary, teamLab also has a profit sharing system: twice a year they divide a portion of their profit among their employees.

  • Japanese Language Policy

The level of Japanese requirement depends on position, but is generally not too high. For web and mobile application developers, they require conversational Japanese. For interactive artists, there's no requirement. Of course, like most companies in Japan there will be discussions happening in Japanese so we assume the more Japanese you speak, the better off you'll be.

  • Visa Sponsorship

teamLab sponsors visas for applicants from abroad.

  • Paid Leave

teamLab offers the relatively standard 10 days of paid leave starting 6 months after employment begins, as well as approximately a week off for the New Year's and summer holidays.

  • Benefits

teamLab offers the usual benefits like transportation expenses, but they also have a few unique policies:

    • Pay raises at any time
    • Continuous Service Award (300k yen at 3 years, 500k at 5 years, 1 million at 10 years)
    • Family allowance
    • Support for after-work activities like sports with co-workers
    • Support for conferences etc.
  • Engineer Interview Process

teamLab has one of the simpler interview processes of the companies on Japan Dev. In principal, there are only two steps:

    • Interview with your potential team members
    • Interview with the company's co-founders

    That's it.

  • Remote Work

teamLab offers partial remote work for engineers. Basically they allow some flexibility for remote work, but not every day. As far as we know there's no specific number of days a week/month you can work remotely, but in general they prefer to work together in-person.

  • Work style

teamLab offers flex time; they don't require you to be at work by a certain time as long as you're able to get your job done.
