About moment
moment is Cookpad’s multimodal AI personal cooking-coach service that helps users quickly grasp the essence of cooking and elevate their skills with exceptional efficiency. A compact kitchen camera sends video and sensor data to the cloud, where computer vision and contextual reasoning combine to deliver personalized cooking guidance. The product is in the Product–Market Fit (PMF) phase, with rapid hypothesis testing and resource efficiency as top priorities.
Role Summary
You will own the architecture, prototyping, mass production, procurement, and inventory of the moment camera device—balancing aggressive cost targets with a best-in-class user experience. Initial EMS/OEM partners will be selected in the United States, requiring close collaboration with overseas factories.
Key Responsibilities
Area & Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
Design cost-optimised schematics for imaging, compute, power, and wireless subsystems; drive DFMA and value engineering.
Prototype → Production
Lead EVT → DVT → PVT builds on compressed schedules; create factory test jigs and flashing stations; achieve ≥ 95 % first-pass yield.
EMS / OEM Management
Select and contract EMS/OEM partners (US focus); negotiate NRE, unit costs, and SLAs; oversee factory audits and ramp-up risks.
Firmware Integration
Coordinate with software teams on firmware requirements, hardware interfaces, and bootloader strategies; oversee firmware update capabilities for in-field devices.
Supply-Chain Control
Own BOM, purchasing, inventory KPIs, and EOL strategy; optimise cash flow and inventory health.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with UX, AI, and software teams to ensure hardware specifications align with user-experience goals. Regulatory Compliance Manage product certifications (FCC, CE, etc.) through independent test labs.
Quality & Reliability
Design and execute reliability test plans. Establish QA processes that identify potential field failures before mass production
Qualifications
- 8 + years of consumer/IoT hardware development, including 3 + years on camera or vision products
- End-to-end experience from concept to mass production of 10 k + units
- Expertise in high-speed digital, analogue, power, and RF design; proficiency with ECAD tools (Altium, Cadence, etc.)
- Proven record of cost negotiation and quality management with EMS/OEM partners
- Business-level English for technical discussions and contract negotiations
- Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with embedded systems development
- Project Management Skills (given the responsibility for leading and coordinating).
- Regulatory Compliance experience
- Experience designing comprehensive test protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Crowdfunding-driven launches (Kickstarter, Makuake) with lean hypothesis testing
- Success shipping hit products under early-stage start-up budgets
- Knowledge of ISP tuning, camera firmware, or thermal design
- Working Japanese or Mandarin for factory communication
