TableCheck, Japan's leading restaurant reservation management platform, is seeking a Full-Stack Product Engineer who excels at both software development and stakeholder collaboration. As a Full-Stack Product Engineer at TableCheck, you will own the complete lifecycle of product features β from gathering requirements and designing technical architecture to implementing scalable solutions and iterating based on user feedback. You'll serve as both a technical executor and product expert, capable of managing project timelines and maintaining quality standards for critical parts of TableCheck's user experience.
We operate in an English-first remote-first environment where clear communication and thorough documentation are paramount. Fluency in other languages (especially Japanese) is welcome but definitely not required. You'll thrive here if you're passionate about solving complex problems, collaborating with users and stakeholders, and delivering scalable solutions using our tech stack: React.js with TypeScript on the frontend and Ruby on Rails on the backend.
Β
What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable frontend solutions using React.js and TypeScript (primary focus)
- Build and maintain backend systems using Ruby on Rails as you grow into the full-stack role
- Ensure production system reliability with a focus on code quality and performance
- Collaborate with product managers, users, and stakeholders to gather requirements and guide technical implementation
- Actively participate in project planning, timeline management, and quality assurance processes to ensure smooth, high-quality releases
Β
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience with React.js, TypeScript, and frontend development
- Some backend experience or willingness to learn Ruby on Rails as you develop in the role
- Strong ability to understand business requirements and passion for solving customer problems
- Good sense of project timelines and quality standards
- Business-level English communication skills
- Experience working in a Product Team in a production environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with a team-first mindset
- Moves fast, has a strong bias for impact, and seeks forgiveness, not permission
Β
Nice to haves
- Japanese language skills
- Previous startup experience is highly desired
- Experience building products from concept to launch, including user research and feature prioritization
- Hands-on experience conducting user interviews and translating feedback into product improvements
- Experience working in the F&B industry (restaurants, hospitality, reservations)
- Experience building and maintaining B2B marketplace platforms
Β
Interview Process
- Resume screening by hiring manager. Please submit your resume/application in English. Resumes/applications submitted in any other language will be rejected.
- Technical and cultural fit screening with the engineering manager (60 minutes)
- Async take-home assignment (~1 week, negotiable)
- Take-home review call with the engineering manager and/or team members (60 minutes)
About TableCheck
TableCheck is changing the online reservation business by connecting millions of diners around the world to the restaurants they love. We help diners make restaurant reservations, and we help merchants manage table inventory, enrich dining experiences, and visualize multi-property analytics to gain insights into restaurant performance. Our goal is to both inform and delight.
We're remote-first, having an asynchronous style working, with employees spread throughout Asia and Europe working on the same team. As such, communication and documentation are in our blood. We look for and write about signals in the noise which enables us to constantly learn and adapt, and we expect members of our teams to constantly follow up with questions and updates to keep everyone in the loop.
Our engineering team communicates in English, and so we generally don't require Japanese skills. We also welcome applicants currently outside Japan. If you want to relocate here, we can sponsor your visa. We're also open to remote candidates who do not plan to relocate.
